Central Shops

The LAUSD Central Maintenance Shops facility located near downtown Los Angeles serves the entire District as centralized providers of roofing, paving, glass, fire extinguisher, musical instrument, and other equipment repair for all school sites, and as a manufacturer of specialty building components such as security grilles and wood window sash. Central Maintenance Shops also includes the Lock Department, which services and repairs all security hardware in the District.

Energy Management Unit

The Energy Management Unit (EMU) is housed at the Maintenance & Operations Department Central Offices at the District's Administrative Headquarters Building on Beaudry Avenue in downtown Los Angeles.

The mission of the EMU is to reduce energy consumption and utility costs at all District sites through the implementation of appropriate supply and demand side management programs designed to enhance the academic and working environment. The EMU also maintains and updates South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) permits for boilers, stand-by and emergency generators, and other regulated equipment to ensure that the District fulfills its environmental stewardship obligations. The EMU acts as a consultant for other LAUSD Departments in developing product specifications for renewable energy, performing "Savings by Design" reviews, and assessing alternative energy fuels and systems.

The Energy Management Unit staff is available from 6 AM to 6 PM to address the energy and utility-related needs and requirements of all LAUSD Departments. To contact an EMU representative please call 213-241-0334 or 213-241-0329.
