]In preparing this announcement we received comments from the Epstein
Department Chair James E. Moore II, who welcomed the news of
Mayeshiba?s installation as IIE Fellow. He stated that ?Ted is a
longstanding contributor and friend to the Department, and we are
grateful for all he does to help develop our programs.? ?I can think
of nothing more appropriate than for his national peers choosing to
elevate him to the rank if IIE Fellow. He is a perfect fit for this
special distinction.? By bridging the gap between industry and
university IIE chapters through sponsored IIE activities, a greater
number of companies are hiring local university graduates, and
offering greater intern opportunities. Mayeshiba is a lecturer in the
Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering,
Mayeshiba has taught courses ranging from Introduction to Industrial
Engineering to capstone Senior Design Seminars, as well as specialized
classes.

The position of Fellow is the highest classification of IIE membership
and no more than 20 are named in any given year. The award is meant to
recognize outstanding leaders of the industrial engineering community
who have made lasting and nationally recognized contributions to the
field.

Since starting a management consulting practice in 1991, Mayeshiba has
worked across a number of industries, including aerospace, automotive,
biopharmaceutical, electronics and municipal and non-governmental
agencies, where he has concentrated on the implementation of Lean
practices, Moore said. Ted has also worked with military and
educational organizations with the United States Air Force he helped
institute the AFSO21 (Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century)
effort which was a combination of Six Sigma and Lean methodologies. He
has been assisting the Existing Facilities Branch in the Facilities
Information Systems, Business Process Improvement Group incorporating
the practices described above. Lean operations is the process of
improving operations using fewer resources, Mayeshiba said. In more
recent years it has subsequently become known as a systems approach to
providing greater value to a customer by finding ways to reduce waste,
human effort, space and cost of a product or service, among other
methods.

Since coming on board with Existing Facilities, FIS team Ted has
helped initiate process improvement of the invoicing, warranty and
Planning functions and is and is assisting in providing leadership and
direction to the overall process improvement effort and will assist in
directing the organization toward Lean, Six Sigma and AFSO21
methodologies.

His more than 25 years of experience include work with organizations
such as General Motors, General Electric, Hughes Aircraft, Gillette,
Becton Dickerson and Crown Zellerbach, and LAUSD among others.
Additionally, Mayeshiba has been very active in the IIE community. A
member for more than 20 years, he is the current president of the Los
Angeles chapter of the organization and a senior member of the
Institute.</description>
